Notebook Dump

notepad-icon-128x128Work has been busy enough that I haven’t gotten around to doing some quick posts about what I’ve found over the past few weeks. So, to fix this, I’m just going to do a note book dump of what’s sitting around in my Google Notebook. Make the jump and enjoy.

I hope to be doing these dumps periodically, as I gather a lot of cool stuff over weeks and weeks where it seems like I’m doing absolutely nothing.

SusanLenox Photostream
[ flickr.com/photos/29710534@N05 ]
Most people think of Flickr as a photo site, but it’s a hidden treasure of illustration gems. This photo stream is full of old poster and advertisement illustrations from Europe and America. Good inspiration for retro projects or just for kicks.

N.C Winters
[ ncwinters.com ]
An illustrator from the left coast who I came across. He has a really rich style that I’m enjoying.

The Last Fathom
[ thelastfathom.com/blog ]
Some decent clothing coming out. I’d probably get the bean stalk one if I lived down under. Tempts me to move down to Austrailia (gotta love Aussies and Kiwis, great people).

Behance

Just came across this site today, and I’m not sure the whole deal yet… but there are some amazing projects on here. Specifically, this is awesome.

Hydro 74 – Le Venom Type
[ merchline.com/hydro74/productdisplay.9423.p.htm ]
Very nice display font from Hydro 47. Makes me wish I was in a metal band where I could set the band’s name to this.

Create Your Own (Vector Grungy) Wallpaper
[ wallpapers.x3studios.com ]
Nice use of flash, and an interesting site if you’re into ambient, grungy wallpapers. Yeah, yeah, I know you could make your own grungy vector wallpapers… but some times you don’t have the time to throw shit together and you just want something with a good scheme to it. This web app is for you.

Pig and Wold
[ youtube.com/watch?v=UWdetyikseM ]
The music is shit (so turn on your favorite tunes and mute this and watch… trust me), but the video itself is awesome. A great example that you don’t necessarily need to have After Effects and a beefed up computer to put together a great motion piece.

Jessica Hische

From the person that brought you Daily Drop Caps. Very nice, quaint and solid illustration and typography.

LEGO State Building
[ Amazon.com via SwissMiss ]
Yeah, it’s a simple build. But the LEGO Architecture Series is more a collectors edition than serious LEGO build. Really love the idea of this series, and I like the Empire State Building, so it’s a win win.

Print Society
[ printsociety.com ]
Interesting and inspiring place to find work and, maybe, sell some.

Lubalin Now
[ Yummy Grain ]
I’m going to have to get to see this. It looks like an excellent exhibit on an excellent typographer.

Also from Grain Edit, Mihail Mihaylov’s graphic design work.

And that’s it. Now I go to bed.
