When will the time warp stop?
On a recent run to the local Target I noticed that they were stocking a few Nabisco treats with retro packaging. The Oreos and Ritz crackers had some quasi-looking circles with the text inside each to make them seem like it was the top of the cookie or cracker and the rest of the package followed suite of making it look like the food had been Doc Browned (you heard it hear first on FoS) here from November 5th, 1955. Anyway it got me thinking about the retro Pepsi products that are out and how some other places are kind of going backwards to get forward.
I think it has to stop. The designs are OK at best. It takes a REAL talent… not a double A talent… a REAL TALENT to make it look, feel and sell like it is retro in my book. And none of these are coming up roses. I just want it stop really. It is just coming off goofy at best to me. I think retro in this day and age and I want to see something like Stubb’s BBQ product line and campaign.
If you agree or disagree let’s hear it… and if you find something that fits what I talking about show it.
Thanks for reading.

Yeah, it is getting a little played out. But as soon as one company does something the others have to fall in line to look like they’re not behind. There’s some good ideas going on in food branding right now, but retro branding isn’t one of them.
I know that sports teams are getting into this “throwback” jersey thing. That idea probably has some influence on this retro food thing.
