New WIP piece – Girl with Bottle

2009 February 5

One of the things I’ve been trying to improve upon is being more consistant in my personal work. I try to keep both divorced from each other. My professional work is to please people and my personal work is to please myself. If the two intersect, then that’s just gravy.

Lately I’ve been thinking of my imagery a lot. Looking to make more of a world for my figures to live in. One that’s very boring and uninviting. I think it probably has something to do with how boring things are in the world. There doesn’t seem to be movement and things are so transient. If you stripped all the bullshit out of our lives, I think my work may be what the world would look like.

One big piece of news going down right now is the Associated Press getting all uppity on Shepard Fairey’s Obama Hope poster. Seems they think Fairey has infringed on their IP, as he used a photo from one of their photographers. And, of coarse, they’re looking for the almighty dollar to ease their butt-hurt. Overlooking the fact – as large companies are so apt to do – that the vast, vast majority of the money made on posters was given to the Obama campaign, and not actually making Fairey any money. The money that Fairey, whose other famous works include the OBEY campaign and recent Zed Zeppelin hits album, donated to the Obama campaign is thought to be in the $300-400,000 dollar range. Most of which was made from the poster. And, not to mention, the fact he freely allowed his work to be used by anyone. In other other news that same poster is headed to the Smithsonian, which is obviously a bastion of plagiarized work.

Ain’t that a bitch, AP?

ps — Hrm, seems I somehow deleted the last two posts. Ah well, they were just tests…
